A little background information

Trojan Horses, System Vulnerabilities and Root-kits are only few of the things needed to be filtered from the internet to keep your VPN secure and your corporate data safe. When expanding, your data is more likely to be compromised at the branch office level. From a Hacker's point of view; the strength of the chain is as strong as its weakest link. Usually the network administrator will enforces a policy that updates the Anti-virus automatically, patches the Operating System; set a strong password policy etc to prevent network breach and data compromise.

What about Zero-day vulnerabilities?
A security expert of some sort (Cracker, Hacker etc) can discover the vulnerabilities in various applications, Operating systems and networking equipment and keep this information to himself in order to use it later on, or to sell it to the highest bidder (a rival company for that matter).

How does one protect them-selves from such a scenario?
The contemporary manner to achieve this is to invest more money and resources to hire security specialists that will asses your system vulnerability 24/7 and to write patches for your applications if they think there is a risk of any sort.
